Results Don’t Care About Your Feelings: The Three Pillars of Forged by Freedom

Updated: 1 day ago

Embracing the journey toward fitness and discipline can sometimes feel like an uphill battle. With distractions and setbacks around every corner, it’s easy to lose sight of our goals. However, the truth remains: results don’t care about your feelings. This phrase is not intended to insult but rather to ignite motivation. Achieving results is about action, not emotion. In this blog post, I will share my journey of discipline, strength, and freedom, emphasizing the three pillars of the "Forged by Freedom" philosophy.

The Driving Force: Discipline

Discipline serves as the rock-solid foundation upon which everything else is built. It’s the commitment to doing what it takes, even when motivation falters. For many, myself included, life can throw significant challenges our way, leading to a dip in discipline.

After a military injury required a double discectomy, I was forced to pause my training as an elite athlete in wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This two-year hiatus came with significant consequences for both my physical and mental well-being. I lost the discipline that had once governed my life.

During this period, I realized how fragile our foundations can be. However, through discipline, I learned to rebuild. Implementing small, consistent habits back into my routine wasn’t easy, but every small win reinforced my willpower.

Building Blocks: Strength

Strength is the natural progression that follows discipline. As we establish discipline in our daily habits—be it through consistent workouts, healthy eating, or mental exercises—strength is not merely physical; it's mental and emotional as well.

In my journey, I started by integrating light exercises into my daily routine. Initially, it was incredibly tough. However, with each session, I began to feel stronger both physically and mentally. This newly-found strength helped me to reclaim my body, and soon I was back on the mat, ready to compete in no-gi BJJ.

Interestingly, the boost in physical strength reflected a growth in mental resilience. My approach to life began to shift as I realized that the discipline I was regaining in the gym translated into all other areas of my life. It was an awakening like no other, showcasing that true strength lies in perseverance.

True Freedom: The Ultimate Goal

At the core of the "Forged by Freedom" philosophy is the belief that strength and discipline culminate in true freedom. This freedom comes from the ability to pursue your passions without fear or reservations.

After regaining my discipline and strength, I set an ambitious goal: to aim for a world record in the over-50 bench press category. At present, I'm 9.4% body fat at 212 lbs and preparing for world championships in no-gi BJJ. Achieving this has taught me a valuable lesson: no matter how far you may fall off your path, it's possible to rise stronger than before.

This freedom extends beyond the physical realm. It encompasses emotional and mental liberation. When we harness our discipline and strength, we become empowered individuals capable of facing life’s many obstacles head-on.

Individuals who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or even defeated can find solace in knowing that the path to reclaiming freedom begins with small disciplines and an unwavering commitment to strength.

The Journey Back

Reflecting on my personal journey, I realized that it wasn’t just about the challenges I faced but how I chose to respond to them. It is very easy to succumb to feelings of despair and hopelessness when life throws curveballs your way. When my injury sidelined my career and disrupted my routine, I had to take a hard look in the mirror and accept my reality.

However, hitting rock bottom can serve as a powerful catalyst for change. I made a conscious decision to take control, to forge my path back to health, fitness, and freedom. I learned that the commitment to regain discipline helped me reconnect deeply with my purpose and passion for life.

Every rep I performed, every healthy meal I prepared, and every moment of discomfort I embraced brought me closer to my goals. I discovered that those moments of struggle became my greatest teachers.

Today, I want to impart a simple yet powerful message: no matter how far you fall, discipline and strength can help you reclaim your freedom and achieve greatness again.

Embracing the Challenge

As we navigate through our fitness journeys, it’s crucial to remember that results don’t care about your feelings. Disappointment, fear, and doubt will arise, but embracing the challenge is what leads to growth.

Far too often, we allow our feelings to override our actions. We put off workouts because we’re not “feeling it” or make excuses for unhealthy eating habits based on emotions. This cycle can only be broken through discipline.

Imagine a life where discipline guides your choices. What could you accomplish if you let go of your feelings and built your life around consistent actions? That’s where true fulfillment lies, not in chasing fleeting emotions but in building a legacy of resilience.

As I continue my training and prepare for competition, I invite you to embark on this journey with me. Together, let’s redefine our approach to discipline, strength, and freedom. The path is yours to forge.

Your Path to Freedom

Are you ready to reclaim your fitness and discipline? I encourage you to start small. Set achievable goals and create daily habits that align with your vision of strength and freedom.

Whether it’s committing to a workout routine, making smarter dietary choices, or simply pushing yourself to stay consistent, remember that the cornerstone of real progress is rooted in discipline. Surround yourself with a community that empowers you, inspires you, and holds you accountable.

Your journey may begin today, in this moment. But the results that follow will echo for years to come. No matter your challenges, remember that you possess the ability to rise again stronger than ever.

So let's remind ourselves: results don’t care about your feelings. They are earned through action. Choose to act today, and together, we can reclaim our freedom and reshape our lives.

The Importance of Mindset

Mindset plays a crucial role in our fitness journey. It shapes our beliefs and influences our actions. A positive mindset can propel us forward, while a negative one can hold us back.

I learned that cultivating a growth mindset is essential. It allows us to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. When faced with setbacks, I remind myself that they are part of the journey. Each setback is a chance to learn and improve.

Building a Support System

Having a support system is vital. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals can provide motivation and encouragement. Share your goals with friends or join a community that shares your passion for fitness.

When I faced challenges, my support system was there to lift me up. They reminded me of my strength and helped me stay accountable. Together, we celebrated victories, big and small.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the journey to fitness and discipline is not a straight path. It is filled with ups and downs. However, with discipline, strength, and the right mindset, we can navigate this journey successfully.

Remember, results don’t care about your feelings. They are achieved through consistent action and a commitment to growth. Embrace the challenges, build your support system, and stay focused on your goals. Your path to freedom is waiting.
